The sound of hurried footsteps echoed through the hospital corridor as Vamika Singhania rushed inside, clutching a pile of files against her chest.
"Why today....who's late on the very first day of their internship? ofcourse tu vamika...aaj hi late hona tha tujhe..",she muttered to herself, trying to fix her messy bun while walking way to fast for a human being.
While walking fast suddenly her foot slipped, and she fell hard onto the floor, the files scattering everywhere around her.
"Great. Amazing.Perfect start , vamika..phle tu late ho gyi ab girr v gyi," she whispered to herself and made a cry face in embarrassment.
People passed by without helping. Some stared. One nurse sighed loudly.
She stood up and then sat down again, quickly gathering all the files, cheeks burning red.
And then-
A pair of polished black shoes stopped right in front of her.
The entire hallway suddenly felt..... quieter.
She slowly looked up.
And there He was standing .
White coat. Calm expression. Sharp jawline. Dark tired eyes that somehow looked colder than the hospital AC.
Dr. Vedant Singh Rathore
"Seeing him , Vamika felt her breath hitched in her throat". Ofcourse she knew him .
Everyone did.
Youngest neurosurgeon . Brilliant . Respected . Intimidating .
And apparently standing right infront of her while she sat on the floor looking like a disaster.
Without saying a word , he bent down and picked up one of the scattered files.
Vamika blinked.
He handed it to her silently .
She, hesitating and slightly stumbling over her words , managed to say "T-thank you, sir".
A small nod .
That was it .
No expression. No smile. Nothing
He turned to leave before stopping midway .
"Intern?"
His deep voice almost made her forget how to breathe .
"Yes?"
"You're late ".
And then he walked away
Vamika stared at his disappearing figure in pure disbelief.
What kind of human talks like that at 8 in the morning?"
"Dr. Rathore," a nurse beside her whispered dramatically, "talking to you for more than five seconds is already a blessing."
Vamika deadpanned.
"Wow. I'm honored."
But somewhere deep inside-
she knew this wasn't going to be her last interaction with him.
And honestly?
That terrified her a little.
Vamika finally reached the neurosurgery department, still trying to recover from the humiliation.
Before she could sit peacefully, another intern leaned toward her.
"You met Dr. Rathore?"
Vamika sighed dramatically.
"Unfortunately."
The girl stared at her like she had committed a crime.
"You do realize half the hospital is scared of him, right?"
Vamika opened her mouth to reply-
But the department doors suddenly opened.
And Dr. Vedant Singh Rathore walked in.
The entire room straightened instantly.
Silence.
Pure silence.
Vedant's sharp gaze moved across the interns before stopping on her for exactly two seconds.
Two seconds.
Yet somehow enough to make her sit properly.
"Welcome to neurosurgery," he said calmly.
And for some reason-
it sounded less like a greeting
and more like a warning.
