The next morning, Vamika was sleeping peacefully while her alarm had already rung more than ten times.
"Uthh ja yaar, Vamika!" Divya groaned, aggressively shaking her. "How can a human sleep this much? Your alarm has been ringing since ages. Get up warna aaj bhi late ho jayegi!"
But Vamika simply pulled the blanket over her face.
Divya narrowed her eyes. "Fine. You asked for this."
The next second-
Splash!
Vamika shot up from the bed with a loud gasp.
"Hostel mein flood aa gaya kya?!"
Divya stood there holding an empty glass with a proud smile.
"Flood nahi, madam. Maine paani dala hai," she replied calmly. "And trust me, if you get late again today, Dr. Vedant ka gussa hi tsunami ban jayega."
The moment Vamika checked the time, her soul almost left her body.
"AREE YRRR!" she screamed while jumping out of bed. "Aaj phir late ho jaungi! Bhagwan ji, why always me?!"
Divya sat on the bed eating chips peacefully while watching Vamika run around the room like a disaster management team.
"Shoes kaha hai mere?!"
"Tumhare pair ke niche," Divya replied casually.
"OH."
After somehow getting ready in record time, both girls rushed to the hospital.
Divya went toward her department while Vamika sprinted through the corridor, clutching her bag tightly.
"Okay Vamika," she muttered dramatically to herself while running.
"Today no chaos. No falling. No embarrassment. Bas chup chap duty karni hai.
Especially uss karele se durr rehna hai."
But fate clearly loved humiliating her.
The moment she turned around the corner, her foot twisted slightly and-
THUD!
She crashed straight into someone.
Not just someone.
Dr. Vedant Singh Rathore.
And before either of them could react-
Both of them fell on the floor together.
The entire corridor went silent.
A nurse near the reception instantly covered her mouth.
One intern whispered dramatically, "Bas yahi dekhna baaki tha."
Another one muttered, "Second day pe hi romance shuru?"
The first intern elbowed him. "Chup! Sir sun lenge toh hum sabki internship cancel ho jayegi."
Meanwhile, Vamika's brain had completely stopped working.
Because she was sitting directly on top of Vedant.
Great.
Amazing.
Wonderful.
Bhagwan ji, zameen phat jaaye aur main usme gir jaaun please.
Vedant looked at her with pure irritation in his eyes.
Actually irritation was a small word.
The man looked one second away from throwing her out of the hospital himself.
Vamika immediately stood up awkwardly, almost slipping again in the process.
A few interns at the back failed to control their laughter.
"Sorry, sir..." she mumbled before nervously extending her hand toward him.
"Need help?"
Vedant stared at her hand for two seconds before completely ignoring it and standing up on his own.
He adjusted his coat silently while glaring at her.
"What exactly is your problem?" he asked coldly. "Why do you keep falling everywhere?"
Vamika instantly pouted.
"Sir, I think hospital floor has personal issues with me. Main kya karu?"
One nurse looked down immediately to hide her smile.
An intern literally turned around because he was laughing too hard.
Vedant closed his eyes for a second like he was testing his patience.
"Mujhse door raho," he said in a dangerously calm voice. "You are a walking disaster."
And with that, he walked away.
The staff immediately started whispering the moment he left.
"Sir ne daanta bhi aur khud uthaya bhi nahi..."
"Poor girl."
"Poor sir," another intern corrected.
Meanwhile, Vamika stood there with the most offended expression ever.
"Subah subah iss karele ki shakal dekh li," she complained dramatically. "Pata nahi pura din kaunsa apshagun hone wala hai."
Just then, Tanvi walked toward her while trying very hard not to laugh.
"Behen," she whispered, "tumne koi promise kiya hai kya? Roz sir ke upar girne wala?"
Vamika gasped dramatically. "Main jaan bujh ke thodi girti hoon!"
Then she paused for a second before mumbling quietly-
"Waise unke upar girna itna uncomfortable bhi nahi tha..."
Tanvi's eyes widened.
"OHHH?"
Vamika immediately panicked. "SHUT UP!"
But neither of them noticed-
A few steps away, Vedant had stopped walking.
A faint smile appeared on Vedant's face after hearing her words.
Vamika was still busy complaining about her tragic life while Tanvi stood beside her laughing like this was the best entertainment of the day.
"I swear," Vamika groaned dramatically,
"mera janam hi beizzati ke liye hua hai."
Tanvi opened her mouth to tease her again but before she could say anything, a nurse suddenly walked toward them.
"Dr. Rathore is calling you to his cabin."
Silence.
Vamika froze.
Tanvi's smile disappeared instantly.
"Oho," she whispered slowly. "Behen... tu toh gayi."
Vamika looked like she was about to cry.
"Maine aisa kya paap kiya tha previous life mein?"
"Bohot bade wale," Tanvi replied confidently.
Vamika glared at her before dragging herself toward Vedant's cabin like a criminal going for punishment.
Outside the cabin, she took a deep breath.
"Okay Vamika," she muttered to herself.
"You are brave. Strong. Independent."
Then after two seconds-
"Nahi yaar main nahi hoon."
Still, she slowly knocked on the door.
"Come in."
His deep voice instantly made her nervous.
Vamika entered carefully and saw Vedant sitting behind his desk, checking some files with that same cold expression on his face.
How can someone look this angry at 9 in the morning?
Did he hate sunshine too?
"Sir... you called me?"
Vedant finally looked up.
"Yes. Sit."
That scared her even more.
Because calm Vedant was somehow more dangerous than angry Vedant.
Vamika sat down slowly while preparing herself mentally for suspension, humiliation, and maybe public execution.
Vedant closed the file in front of him.
"Since you seem to have enough energy to run through corridors and fall on people," he said coldly, "you can handle emergency ward duty today."
Vamika's eyes widened.
"Emergency ward?" she repeated weakly.
"Yes. Problem?"
YES. MANY PROBLEMS.
But outwardly she gave him a fake smile.
"No sir."
Vedant leaned back slightly, watching her carefully.
"One more mistake today," he said calmly, "and I'll personally make sure your internship becomes hell."
Vamika gulped.
Bhagwan ji, yeh doctor hai ya mafia leader?
"Yes sir," she replied innocently before quickly standing up.
And while leaving the cabin she accidentally hit the chair again.
THAK.
Vedant closed his eyes slowly.
Vamika looked at the chair in betrayal.
"See sir? Furniture bhi mere against hai."
For one second, complete silence filled the cabin.
Then-
Vedant looked away to hide the tiny smile threatening to appear on his face.
But unfortunately for him...
Vamika noticed it.
Her eyes widened slightly.
Wait... did Dr. Karela Rathore almost smile?
Before she could think more, Vedant looked back at her with his usual cold expression.
"Get out."
"Ji sir."
The second she stepped outside the cabin, she took a deep breath like she had just survived a war.
Tanvi immediately rushed toward her.
"Kya hua? Zinda kaise bach gayi?"
Vamika held her arm dramatically.
"He sent me to emergency ward."
Tanvi gasped.
"OH GOD."
"Exactly!"
A little later, Vamika entered the emergency ward nervously.
Doctors and nurses were moving around quickly while patients filled almost every corner.
"Okay..." she whispered to herself. "Just survive the day."
But within ten minutes-
Chaos started.
A little boy around six years old sat on the bed crying loudly while refusing treatment.
"No injection!" he cried dramatically.
"Mujhe ghar jaana hai!"
The nurses looked helpless.
Vamika slowly walked toward him.
"Hey," she said softly while sitting beside him. "What's your name?"
The boy sniffed. "Aarush."
"Okay Aarush," Vamika whispered seriously, "I have an important question."
The boy blinked at her.
"Do you think Spider-Man cries before injections?"
The little boy instantly shook his head.
"Exactly," Vamika nodded proudly.
"Because superheroes are brave."
The boy looked conflicted now.
Meanwhile, nearby nurses watched the scene with surprise because somehow the child had already stopped crying.
Vamika leaned closer dramatically.
"And you know what? If you don't cry, I'll secretly tell the nurse to use her invisible painless injection."
The boy's eyes widened.
"There's a painless one?"
"Obviously," Vamika whispered. "VIP patients only."
The nurses nearby almost laughed.
A few steps away-
Vedant had just entered the ward.
He was about to call out for updates when his eyes landed on Vamika.
She was sitting beside the little patient with messy hair, an exhausted face, and the softest smile while trying to make the child laugh.
And strangely...
For the first time, she didn't look like a walking disaster.
She looked warm.
Comforting.
Alive.
The little boy finally agreed for treatment while holding Vamika's hand tightly.
"I'm brave, right?" he asked proudly.
Vamika smiled softly.
"The bravest."
Vedant
silently watched the scene for a few more seconds.
Maybe for the first time...
The chaos around her didn't feel annoying anymore.
