"Canteen Chaos"

Vedant stood near the glass window of his cabin, silently watching the rain outside while the hospital buzzed with its usual chaos.

But strangely...

His mind was somewhere else.

Or more specifically-

On someone else.

He sighed tiredly and loosened his tie slightly before looking back at the file lying open on his desk.

The same file he had been trying to read for the past ten minutes and failing miserably.

Because every single time he tried to focus, one annoying face kept appearing in his mind.

Messy hair.

Overdramatic expressions.

Nonstop talking.

And those stupidly honest eyes,Vedant closed the file with irritation.

"What is wrong with me?" he muttered under his breath.

Just then, the cabin door opened without warning.

Kabir walked inside casually while sipping coffee

(Dr.Kabir Malhotra Vedant's bestfriend and best heart surgeon)

"There it is," Kabir said proudly. "That irritated face. I was waiting for it."

Vedant gave him a flat look. "Don't you have work?"

Kabir ignored him and sat down comfortably.

"I do," he replied calmly. "But gossip is more important."

Vedant already knew where this conversation was going.

"No."

Kabir blinked innocently. "No what?"

"No, I'm not talking about her."

Kabir's grin widened immediately.

"I didn't even say her name."

Silence.

Vedant mentally cursed himself.

Wonderful.

Kabir leaned forward dramatically, "So the chaotic intern is officially living in Dr. Rathore's head rent free."

"She's not living in my head," Vedant replied coldly.

Kabir raised an eyebrow,"Really? Then why are you looking personally offended while staring at one file for half an hour?"

Vedant looked away in annoyance.

Because unfortunately...

Kabir wasn't wrong.

His mind kept replaying the same scene from the emergency ward.

Vamika laughing softly while talking to the little boy.

The way she distracted him from crying.

The way the child trusted her instantly.

Vedant frowned slightly.

He had seen countless interns before.

Most of them focused only on impressing seniors.

But Vamika...

Even in the middle of all her chaos, she genuinely cared.

And that somehow bothered him more.

Kabir noticed the sudden silence and narrowed his eyes suspiciously.

"Oh no," he whispered dramatically.

"You're thinking about her again."

Vedant instantly snapped out of his thoughts.

"I'm not."

"You literally are."

"I said no."

Kabir leaned back while trying hard not to laugh.

"This is unbelievable. Dr. Vedant Singh Rathore getting affected by a girl?

Medical science needs to study this."

Vedant glared at him.

"She's irresponsible."

"Hmm."

"She's clumsy."

"Very true."

"She creates problems everywhere."

Kabir nodded seriously before smirking.

"And yet you notice every single thing about her."

Silence.

Vedant froze slightly.

Kabir looked like he had just won a lifetime achievement award.

"Oh my God," he whispered dramatically.

"You actually like her."

Vedant's expression turned dangerously calm.

"Kabir."

"Yes?"

"Get out."

Kabir burst out laughing.

Before leaving, he stopped near the door and turned around with a teasing smile.

"You know what's funny?"

Vedant looked unimpressed already.

"You only call someone 'chaos' when they affect your peace."

And with that-

Kabir walked out.

Leaving Vedant completely speechless for the first time that day.

For a few seconds after Kabir left, Vedant just sat there silently in his cabin.

His words kept replaying in his head like an annoying background song.

"You only call someone chaos when they affect your peace."

Vedant scoffed softly and picked up the patient file again.

Ridiculous.

He was simply irritated by her.

That was all.

...Right?

Then unfortunately-

His brain betrayed him again.

Because out of nowhere, he remembered Vamika sitting in the emergency ward beside that little boy with the softest smile on her face.

Messy hair falling over her cheeks.

Eyes full of warmth.

That stupid dramatic whisper-

"VIP patients get painless injections."

Vedant shut the file loudly.

"Unbelievable."

At this point even he was getting irritated with himself.

Before he could think more, his pager beeped.

Emergency Ward.

With a tired sigh, he grabbed his coat and walked out of the cabin.

Meanwhile...

The canteen buzzed with soft conversations, the smell of coffee filling the air while exhausted interns tried to survive another hectic hospital day.

Vamika was busy bullying a plate of fries.

"I'm telling you guys," she groaned dramatically while resting her head on the table, "Dr. Vedant Singh Rathore definitely hates me personally."

Tanvi snorted. "Obviously. Tum unpe gir chuki ho."

"ONCE."

"Publicly."

"Gravity ki galti thi, maine kch ni kiya aur woh v jb tb mere samne prakat ho jate h", she pouted slightly.

Divya calmly sipped her coffee. "At this point even gravity is tired of you."

Vamika gasped and placed a hand over her heart.

"Tu dost h ki dusman."

Before anyone could reply-

The atmosphere inside the canteen suddenly shifted.

A few interns immediately sat properly.

Some nurses straightened their coats.

And Vamika didn't even need to turn around to know why.

Her shoulders stiffened automatically.

Slowly, she looked up and there he was.

Dr. Vedant Singh Rathore.

Black shirt , sleeves rolled up slightly, stethoscope hanging around his neck.

And that same calm, unreadable expression that somehow made him look even more intimidating.

For a second-

Vamika forgot how to breathe.

Why does this man always walk around looking like a heartbreak warning?

"Close your mouth," Divya whispered beside her.

Vamika immediately looked down at her fries.

"No eye contact," she muttered under her breath. "Aaj aur insult nahi chahiye."

Unfortunately for her-

The doctor standing beside Vedant had already noticed their table.

A slow grin appeared on his face.

"Ohhh," he dragged out dramatically while looking at Vedant. "So THIS is the famous girl."

Vedant looked exhausted already.

"Don't start, Kabir."

Too late.

Both of them walked toward their table.

The smiling doctor sat down comfortably while Vedant quietly pulled the chair beside him.

The second he sat down-

The entire table suddenly felt smaller.

Warmer.

Dangerous.

"Hi," the smiling doctor grinned,"I'm Kabir Vedant's best friend and unfortunately his unpaid therapist."

Tanvi instantly liked him.

Meanwhile Vamika sat quietly, pretending she wasn't internally panicking.

Kabir rested his chin on his hand dramatically before looking at her.

"So," he smiled innocently, "you're the one who attacked my best friend in the corridor?"

Vamika looked offended immediately.

"I slipped!"

"And landed directly on him," Kabir nodded thoughtfully. "Interesting."

Vedant rubbed his forehead slowly.

"She's a disaster."

Vamika gasped.

"RUDE."

"Honest."

"Khadoos."

Kabir looked between them with sparkling eyes.

"Oh, this is better than Netflix."

Before Vamika could argue again-

A familiar voice suddenly came from behind her.

"mujhe pta tha tu yahi milegi bhukkad jo h ."

The irritation instantly disappeared from Vamika's face.

"AARAVVV!"

She turned around so quickly that Aarav almost dropped the coffee cups in his hands.

"Pagal ladki!" Aarav laughed, "Garam coffee hai!"

"But best friend is more important."

"Acha? Then pay for my coffee too."

"Emotionally pay kar dungi."

Aarav sat beside her naturally while she immediately stole fries from his plate.

He stared at her in disbelief.

"Wow. Loot lo mujhe."

"Sharing is caring."

"You don't share."

"Details."

Kabir burst out laughing.

Meanwhile-

Vedant quietly watched the two of them.

The way Vamika laughed so freely around Aarav.

The way her entire face lit up while talking to him.

The way she looked completely comfortable.

And strangely-

Something about that irritated him.

Tiny.

Unfamiliar.

But enough to make his jaw tighten slightly.

Kabir noticed instantly.

Interesting.

Aarav suddenly looked at Vamika suspiciously.

"Waise..." he narrowed his eyes dramatically, "aaj kis pe giri?"

The entire table went silent.

Tanvi choked on her drink.

Kabir's eyes widened with excitement.

And slowly-

Vedant looked up at Vamika.

Vamika looked ready to murder Aarav on the spot.

"AARAV."

"What?" he blinked innocently. "Daily routine hai tumhara."

"She fell on Vedant today," Kabir informed proudly.

Aarav froze dramatically.

Then slowly-

He turned toward Vedant.

Then toward Vamika.

Then back toward Vedant again.

"...Sir survived?"

Even Divya burst out laughing this time.

Vamika covered her face in embarrassment.

"I hate everyone."

Aarav leaned closer toward Vedant slightly before whispering dramatically-

"Sir honestly, she's a safety hazard."

"HEY!"

"But..." Aarav continued innocently while looking at Vamika, "...cute hazard."

The second those words left his mouth-

Vedant's expression changed.

Very slightly.

So slightly that no one else would've noticed.

Except Kabir.

And unfortunately-

Kabir noticed everything.

His eyes slowly shifted toward Vedant before a knowing smirk appeared on his face.

Meanwhile Vamika rolled her eyes and pushed Aarav away dramatically.

"Shut up."

But Aarav only grinned wider.

And across the table-

Vedant's gaze unknowingly drifted back toward her once again.

Calm.

Silent.

Dangerously unreadable.

While Vamika, completely unaware of the storm she was creating inside him, continued arguing with Aarav like nothing had happened.

And somehow...

Vedant hated the fact that he couldn't look away.
