The past three months had gone by so fast that sometimes Vamika wondered where all that time had disappeared.
Between endless duties, emergency cases, sleepless nights, and surviving under Dr. Vedant Singh Rathore's supervision...
Life had become hectic.
And somehow...
She had gotten used to it.
Almost.
Almost because she still got scolded every other day.
"Yaarrr, maine teen mahine jhel liya usse. Tu soch rahi hai?" Vamika groaned dramatically, sinking deeper into the chair.
Beside her, Divya was busy scrolling through her phone. Without even looking up, she replied, "Haan toh? What's the big deal?"
Vamika's mouth dropped open.
"Excuse me? Kaisa reply tha yeh? Us karele karwe ke sath survive karna bahut muskil h !"
That finally made Divya look at her.
"Honestly? The way you behave, I would've kicked you out long ago. Thank God Dr. Vedant is patient enough to tolerate you."
"Wow."
Vamika placed a hand over her heart.
"You're my best friend or Vedant Sir's lawyer? What kind of friend takes the villain's side?"
Before Divya could answer, Aarav and Tanvi walked into the cafeteria.
Divya instantly sat up.
"Kafhi tym hogya h hum sb sath m kahi ni gye h toh aaj chle kahi ghumne sb sath m ?"
The moment those words left her mouth, Aarav and Tanvi exchanged a quick glance.
A suspiciously quick glance.
Vamika narrowed her eyes.
"Ohooo... what's going on here?"
Divya immediately noticed it too.
Both girls stared at them like detectives solving a murder case.
Aarav awkwardly scratched the back of his neck.
"What? Nothing is going on."
"Really?" Vamika asked dramatically.
"Because that looked very much like a secret-couple eye contact."
Tanvi almost choked.
"Shut up, Vamika."
"I'm serious!"
"Nothing is happening," Aarav laughed nervously. "We're just busy today."
"Exactly," Tanvi agreed way too quickly. "I have some work too. Maybe some other day."
And just like that, both of them disappeared.
The moment they left-
"Kuch toh gadbad hai."
Both Vamika and Divya spoke together then they burst out laughing.
A little later, Vamika entered her department.
The moment she stepped inside, her smile disappeared.
There, standing beside Vedant, was one of the interns.
No.
Not standing.
Practically glued to him.
The girl was laughing at every single thing he said while standing way too close for Vamika's liking.
Vamika stopped in her tracks.
For some reason...
she didn't like it.
Not one bit.
"Seriously?" she muttered under her breath.
The girl laughed again.
Vamika's eye twitched.
Why is she standing so close?
Personal space naam ki bhi koi cheez hoti hai.
And look at her smiling.
As if she's his girlfriend or something.
Unbelievable.
Her glare intensified.
When I breathe too loudly, he starts lecturing me. But Miss Fevikwik can practically sit on his shoulder and he says nothing.
Double standards.
Absolute double standards.
Lost in her silent rant, she didn't notice Tanvi approaching.
"Aur kitni gaaliyan degi usse?"
Vamika jumped.
"OH MY GOD!"
She nearly dropped the file in her hand.
"Don't do that! Ek din meri heartbeat permanently stop ho jayegi."
Tanvi laughed.
"You know, that girl has been following Sir everywhere these days."
Vamika rolled her eyes.
"I can see that."
"People are saying she got in through family connections."
"Good for her."
The reply came a little too quickly.
Tanvi smirked.
"Oh really?"
"Haan."
"You don't seem happy about it".
"I'm perfectly happy."
"Then why were you staring at her for the last five minutes?"
Vamika froze.
"...I wasn't."
"You were."
"I wasn't."
"You totally were."
Tanvi leaned closer.
"And you were mentally murdering her."
"Shut up."
"You like him."
"SHUT UP!"
Tanvi burst out laughing.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the department...
Vedant had witnessed the entire exchange.
Every expression.
Every glare.
Every annoyed eye-roll.
Every jealous reaction.
And strangely...
he couldn't stop thinking about it.
A faint smile appeared on his lips before disappearing just as quickly.
The intern beside him continued talking.
Vedant barely listened.
His attention remained fixed on a certain stubborn junior doctor.
A moment later, his phone rang.
Emergency Ward.
His expression instantly turned professional.
"Dr. Vedant speaking."
The nurse's urgent voice came from the other side.
"Sir, we need you in Emergency. Accident case. Critical condition."
Vedant grabbed his coat.
"I'm on my way."
And within seconds, he was gone.
Completely unaware that Vamika's eyes had followed him the entire way out.
